Biennial of Student Drawing and Student Graphics
“Students’ City” Cultural Center has been continuously and alternately organizing biennial exhibitions of student drawings and graphics since 1981. The basic idea of these exhibitions of student works is to gather and present the works of future academic artists and applied artists in one place, and thus provide insights into the special educational praxis of various art schools. Since its founding, the Biennale has been called the Biennial of Student Drawing and Student Graphics of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, it had a Yugoslav character and presented student works from the Academies from the Yugoslav Republics.
After the disintegration of the SFRY in the early 1990s, the Biennale continued to exist, introducing a new practice of inviting one academy from abroad or the former Yugoslav republics as a guest Academy of the Biennale. Since 2007, the Biennale has been called the Biennial of Student Drawing and Student Graphics of Serbia. Every year, more than 100 authors have the opportunity to exhibit at the Biennial of Student Drawing and Student Graphics. The award of the Biennale consists of organizing a solo exhibition of the awarded author in the Gallery of “Students’ City” Cultural Center. The awarded authors have the opportunity to participate in the group exhibition of the awarded authors in “Students’ City” Cultural Center the Gallery and in other university centers in Serbia and abroad. So far, forty-one Biennials have been held, twenty-one Biennials of Student Drawing and twenty Biennials of Student Graphics. The fact that many, and especially the awarded participants of the previous Biennials of Student Drawing and Student Graphics have prominent places on the contemporary art scene, both at home and abroad, confirms the quality and representativeness of this manifestation.
